A repository of railroad artifacts and memorabilia, the DeQuincy Railroad Museum is located 25 miles northwest of Lake Charles. Throughout the 20th century, two railroad lines crisscrossed in the town, creating a vibrant railroad economy and culture that continues today. The facility is an authentic, restored Kansas City Southern Railroad Depot and exemplifies Mission Revival architecture. The restoration extends to a ticket office, waiting rooms, baggage room, dispatcher’s office and passenger platform.

Outside, there are large-scale examples of historic trains and cars, including a 1913 steam locomotive, a 1947 Pullman passenger car and two cabooses. The outdoor area also includes a park and picnic area. Among the museum displays are antique railroad instruments and tools, documents, original passenger bags, model trains and other vestiges of DeQuincy’s railroad industry.

The museum is the site of DeQuincy’s Louisiana Railroad Days Festival, which takes place every April and features a 5K run, live music, food, bicycle parade, midway rides and children’s activities, including arts, crafts and model train demonstrations.
