Allen Parish Canoe Festival Brings Fun on the Water

View All Events

The annual Allen Parish Canoe Festival — hosted throughout a weekend in April — was established by Allen Parish residents in an effort to highlight the area’s numerous and winding canoe routes to canoeing enthusiasts in other regions.

Hosted at the Allen Parish Fairgrounds in Oberlin, the Canoe Festival offers a variety of fun, family-friendly activities and doubles as a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Festival events include:

  • A festival parade
  • Carnival rides
  • Live music
  • Southern cuisine cook-offs

Previous festivals have featured popular local acts such as Gyth Rigdon and Jamie Bergeron & The Kickin’ Cajuns, with musical stylings that range from country to Cajun music. Festival attendees can also participate in land canoe races, an event during which contestants carry canoes on land and race each other to the finish line. The Allen Parish Canoe Festival 5k Color Run is also a popular weekend activity among festivalgoers. The fun run is open to all ages and features a unique addition to the race involving multi-colored powders, which are used to add a splash of color to the event and to participants themselves.
