BACK TO Public Schools

North of Lake Charles is Moss Bluff Elementary School, a pre-kindergarten-through-5th-grade community school with an A rating from the Louisiana Department of Education for 2014-15. A feeder school to the highly-ranked Moss Bluff Middle and Sam Houston High campuses, Moss Bluff Elementary includes music and the use of technology in the classroom as important areas of focus.

Students in early grades concentrate on basic subjects, such as English, math, social studies and science, in addition to receiving instruction in music, physical education and health. The study of fundamental subjects continues in the 4th and 5th grades and is complemented by French and the exploration of Louisiana’s rich culture and history.

Students benefit from the use of advanced technology in the classroom, including Blackboard software, as well as the school’s more than 430 Internet-connected computers, document cameras, ACTIVboards and other digital equipment designed to complement the curriculum.

Moss Bluff Elementary School also excels at academic competitions. In 2014, two of its students won grand prizes in their division of a regional social studies fair, and a team of 4th-graders participated in the Mu Alpha Theta National Math Honor Society tournament, winning third place overall.
