Located in fast-growing Moss Bluff in northern Lake Charles, Sam Houston High School is a high-performing Calcasieu Parish school. Sam Houston students excel in class 5A athletic and academic competitions, and 94 percent of them are proficient in core subjects such as algebra, English and biology. In 2014, U.S. News & World Report included Sam Houston on its list of the best U.S. high schools.

Campus expansions undertaken to keep pace with community growth include additional classrooms, as well as a new library. Students at this 8th-through-12th-grade school also take pride in their campus, recycling two million pounds of paper, glass and materials since initiating their “green” trash program.

Sam Houston High School students benefit from a broad selection of electives bolstering a focus on fundamental academic subjects. Band, chorus, piano, law, French and Spanish are just some of the non-compulsory options. Numerous Advanced Placement courses and gifted classes in math and other topics offer academic challenges for high-achieving students. Sam Houston students can receive workforce training through vocational and career-focused classes in marketing, business, desktop publishing, agriculture and hospitality.

Also a Louisiana sports powerhouse, the Sam Houston football team regularly advances to post-season playoff rounds, with four members of its 2013 football squad named to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association All-Academic Team. Clubs and extracurricular activities include a campus chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, an archery club, spirit band, dance team, environmental club and a chapter of the National Art Society.
