The Lake Charles parks and recreation system maintains numerous community centers with a number of fields, courts and trails. Among these, many parks also maintain pools with summer swimming and lessons. In the city’s downtown area and adjacent to the lake, residents can enjoy a range of amenities. A marina for fishing, pathways for walking and jogging, areas for picnicking and a fountain for interactive play. The city is also home to a waterpark and “splash pads.” Skate parks are located in both Lake Charles and the town of DeQuincy.
The City of Lake Charles maintains a scenic park area, paths and playground along its lake. Within this area is a community-built park and playground, which is in close proximity to city festivals and city-sponsored park events, such as Family Night at the Park and Kids to Parks Day — an annual grassroots movement where the city encourages all kids to visit the park.

Numerous recreational and outdoor activities are available beyond the city limits in Southwest Louisiana. A 180-mile scenic byway offer great views for cycling or driving. With nearly 200,000 acres of state and national wildlife refuges, visitors can view habitats and estuaries, or go fishing, crabbing or strolling along 26 miles of accessible beaches.
